Using mental skills where life actually happens.
Reflections on mindset, performance, and the stories we tell ourselves — in sport and beyond.
This blog is for athletes — and NARPs. NARP stands for Non-Athletic Regular Person, a term we used in college, usually with a laugh, to describe life beyond the locker room. It’s meant to be lighthearted and, at least in this case, inclusive. These days, my cleats are hung up. Most days, I feel like a NARP. But some days, I don’t. I’ve learned that it’s often a choice — how much of the athlete mindset we carry into the rest of our lives. I’m still figuring out what that means, and whether that’s good or bad. This blog lives right there in that space. Tell Yourself a Different Story is about how mental skills show up outside of drills, practices, and game days. It’s about the stories we tell ourselves when things don’t go as planned — in sport, in school, in work, in parenting, and in the quiet moments no one else sees. Here you’ll find reflections on: -Mindset and self-talk -Pressure, stress, and expectations -Identity beyond performance -Growth after setbacks and carrying the best parts of sport into real life Whether you’re competing, coaching, parenting, or just trying to navigate your next chapter — this space is for you. Athletes. Former athletes. And everyone else figuring it out.
